About Stacy Russo

I’m a California writer, artist, poet, and DIY oral historian who is committed to creating books and art for a more peaceful world. I serve as librarian and associate professor at Santa Ana College. I created Wild Librarian Press in 2021 to independently publish my debut novel and the work of other writers in the future. I’m the author of several nonfiction books, the editor of two essay collections, and a published poet, as well as the author and illustrator of the children’s picture books Poetry Hounds, inspired by my late and beloved dogs Joni and Walter, and Wild Librarian Bakery and Bookstore, which is set in the same universe as my novel-in-stories, Stella Peabody’s Wild Librarian Bakery and Bookstore. My writing has appeared in Feminist Collections, Library Journal, American Libraries, Feminist Teacher, Counterpoise, and Serials Review. I served as a longtime book reviewer for Library Journal and have over seventy published reviews, primarily in the areas of women’s literature, American literature, and literary biography. One Day I Started a New Life, a book of my art over the last decade, will be published by Sacramento-based Litwin Books in 2024.

My books have been adapted for university classes and featured on National Public Radio, Pacifica Radio, the Canadian Broadcasting System, Sirius XM Radio, KCET Artbound, LA Weekly, and various other media channels. I hold English degrees from the University of California, Berkeley and Chapman University, and a degree in library and information science from San Jose State University. I’m a certified Level I and Level II Expressive Arts Facilitator through Expressive Arts Florida Institute. I’m the former chair of the Association of College and Research Libraries – Women and Gender Studies Section. I’m currently pursuing a PhD in transformative studies through California Institute of Integral Studies. My dissertation inquiry is on the experiences of women who create solo-homes, or homes of their own, outside of the dominant marriage-and-family paradigm.

I always take my coffee black and begin each day with a walk around my neighborhood.
